About Us

CT Office of Early Childhood/ Statutes and Regulations require that all CT child care providers who administer medications must be trained by a licensed health professional (RN, APRN, Physician, PA) in medication administration. Training is required every three years for General Principles of Medication Administration and Oral, Topical and Inhalant Medications and annually for Anaphylaxis and Emergency Medications. For more information about licensing requirements, see website information listed on Home page.

In 2013, the CT Office of Early Childhood and the Child Health and Development Institute of CT, Inc, awarded a grant to Angela Crowley, PhD, APRN, PNP-BC, FAAN, Professor, at Yale University School of Nursing to revise and update curriculum for trainers.

The Train the Trainer for RN, APRN, Physician, Physician Assistant to teach CT Medication Administration in Early Education and Child Care Settings prepares eligible trainers for delivering the CT Medication Administration in Early Education and Child Care Settings curriculum (2013/2014) to child care center, family child care, Head Start, and preschool teachers and providers.

The curriculum has two components: Electronic files in English and Spanish which are located at the CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC)/ CT Charts-A-Course (CCAC) Registry and videos of Module 1: General Principles of Medication Administration and Oral, Topical and Inhalant Medications and Module 2: Anaphylaxis and  Emergency Medications in English and Spanish at this Yale website.

In order to access the curriculum, a licensed health professional (RN, APRN, physician, or PA) must do the following:

  1. Complete the enrollment or renewal process at the OEC/ CCAC Registry (https://www.ccacregistry.org/),
  2. Register for a Train the Trainer session at Yale School of Nursing, and
  3. Access the videos at this website
Please note that Train the Trainer participants must bring their CCAC Registry ID and a copy of their CT health professional license to the training session. Please see “Med Admin Run Book for Trainers only” (listed under Resources) and follow the instructions for Registry enrollment or renewal. For questions or assistance with the Registry process, go to http://www.ctcharts.org and click on Registry then Staff for the list of regional Registry staff. For information about a Train the Trainer session check the Calendar. For any additional questions about this website, contact robin.scribner@yale.edu
